All About The Beagle’s Needs

The general perception of Beagles is that they are all hunting dogs, and one often thinks of a Beagle running after a fox or a rabbit. Despite the heavy hunting association, the charismatic little Beagle is also a very popular family pet these days. Now that you know a bit about this breed, lets look at what pet food you should be feeding your Beagle.

Your Beagle will love to nibble on treats and just like other dogs, there is a lot of choice in the pet food UK market for owners to feed their pets with. The main thing to remember is that the Beagle is quite a small dog, and this often corresponds to the amount of food they need to eat. Also, you’re going to have to be aware that Beagles have a keen hunting instinct, so if you want to feed them proper pet food, you’re going to have to make sure they don’t just run off after a rabbit or something.

Now we should delve a little deeper into what the Beagle is like and the features it has. The Beagle has a keen sense of smell and a strong hunting instinct. This member of the American Kennel Club’s hound group actually comes in two sizes, under thirteen inches and thirteen to fifteen inches. It is only the difference in size that separates the two varieties, as their general features are exactly the same. You will notice the common Beagle features include droopy ears and a rather long tail for an animal so short in stature. Its coat is short and most commonly comes in a combination of tan, black and white colours. You can also find orange, black, or tan dogs with white markings.

All dogs love their food and Beagles are no exception. If you put your dog on a diet, he will happily eat garbage. In fact, even if he isn’t on a diet, he may still hit the bins for an after-dinner snack, so it is important to control this scavenging instinct by feeding it regularly with good, wholesome pet food.

Beagles are generally a healthy breed. Having said that, there are some cases where Beagles start with epilepsy and suchlike, so make sure your pet has regular veterinary checks. Weight related problems can also be a cause for concern, so look after your pet and feed it healthy UK pet food.

In closing, the Beagle can make the perfect pet and it would be ideal if you’re looking for a great little friend to be a part of the family.
